Book: “One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way” by Robert Maurer.
All Changes, even positive ones, are scary. Attempts to reach goals through radical or revolutionary means often fail because they heighten fear. But the small steps of Kaizen disarm the brain’s fear response, stimulating rational thought and creative play.
Written by an expert on Kaizen—Dr. Robert Maurer, a psychologist on the staff at the UCLA medical school who speaks and consults nationally—One Small Step is the gentle but potent way to effect change. Beginning by outlining the all-important role that fear plays in all types of change—and Kaizen’s ability to circumvent it—Dr. Maurer then explains the 7 Small Steps. He shows how to perform mind sculpture—visualizing virtual change so that real change comes more naturally. The Science of Small Steps is a system that fools your brain into forgetting the fear of failure and other self-sabotaging tendencies that hijack your efforts.
As a reminder, you don’t have to read the book! The facilitators will share the main principles from the book with the group.
Sharon Lachow-Blumberg with I'm Not Done Yet will facilitate this stimulating discussion.
