The Power of Excel for Business Analytics

Preparing The Knowledge Worker of Tomorrow – today

Companies now have more data and analytics tools to play with than ever. In fact, Executives believe technology is the single most important force shaping the organization now, according to IBM's recent global C-Suite survey. However, the pace of change means that the gap between the skills that organizations have and the skills that they need is growing. Employers are increasingly looking for individuals who can code, understand analytics and know how to interact with data.

Practical Analytics Services will lead this hands on workshop to help individuals (working in any area of a company) better prepare for the data driven economy of today.

Excel 2013 - Did you know? (Just a few things)

· Has the ability to create maps – (GeoFlow)
· You can create dashboards within Excel (PowerView)
· Enable you to hold millions of records in a PivotTable (PowerPivot)
· Embed your Excel files and reports on a web page (Web App)
· Will allow you to connect to multiple data sources (PowerQuery)
· You can share you Excel files and do not have to worry about having to email them around (Power BI SharePoint site)
· You can connect to web sites to obtain data for your reports

Why Attend?

· The technology is being taught from a business perspective
· The instructor is from the business world who started learning the technology 15 years ago. Mr. Stiefel, Founder of Practical Analytics, started to obtain a better understanding of the technology because he was tired of spending his time manually making adjustments to an Excel file – sound familiar
· The objective is not to teach you every possible Excel shortcut or syntax…it’s to teach you how to start to ‘Think’ like Excel

Topics Covered:

1) Excel Today – it’s not your parents Excel anymore
2) Formulas
3) PivotTables
4) Creating Dynamic charts
5) Working with text

If there is interest following this workshop, BIG and Practical Analytics are prepared to offer a multi-part series that will start with Microsoft Excel and will continue on with databases, scripting languages and the cloud.
